“Eueuieue’s” high frequencies are fast-acting healing agents made of papier-mâché, slapped onto a chicken-wire planetary frame that is hollow in its core. The ticker tapes of treble pierce through the pollution as only clear and clean treble can. It’s as purifying as a hot rocks sauna.
It’s odd: the soothing massage this excerpt of “Eueuieue” is giving me reminds me of a late night road trip from Tuscaloosa to Chattanooga. We were cruising through fog thick like lard; we couldn’t see even a mere inch ahead of the Forester’s headlights. The only thing that cooled our nerves was ELO’s greatest hits, maybe more specifically “Mr. Blue Sky.” Something about Jeff Lynne’s perfect pursuit of piercing pop cut through the fog, or at least our worries concerning the fog. High attack & high end. No mud. No fog.
And here, at the end of a day marked with decent weather but racing thoughts and strange dingy cubby holes of dark energy, the mental fog is cut collectively, in a similar, surgical Lynne-like way, by Krapoola, Miguel A. Garcia, and Lee Noyes. The tools for the incision, violent if misused, are sterilized. They retain their rough aesthetic.
