The thing I find most impressive about my pal Ritch’s music is his how he deploys audible humor. Half the time I’m sitting at work, listening to the same sh’moe producer, and nothing changes: beat after beat, same melody/sample, scrapped up samples, looped shit fests, etc. But Lord $M$ not only goes in on progressing the production game, but gets fucking clever with sound to a point that he could make a track comprised of audience laughter samples without missing a beat. Not only does the dude traverse multiple levels of physical/digital mixing modes on master-ass-crushing levels, but he’s also gone in on and spent plenty of time veteraning hip hop, footwork, and plainly just smashed-out psyche-beats. So, it comes at no surprise that “:) (187wet)***” is the perfect combination of all that and more and FUCK YOU.
“Eye ball the perp/purp, I don’t need no scale” is audibly either the gunner or the dealer (and a REALLY elaborate Gorilla Zoe sample?), slanging thug on them ballroom keys, a beat that’ll fuck up feet fast than footwork, and a branding signature that’s as popcorn swag as a foreign-to-English cellphone-text alert; SMSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. And “:) (187wet)***” is just a TASTE of what Swim Team member, Lord $M$ has to offer, ‘cause come November 11, he’s got an EP coming out on Bootleg Tapes, that’ll continue to rival anything that challenges a good head nod.
