I don’t know what you heard about my girl Abigail Press, but she pretty much picking up where Sade left off. No lie — even if you’re a big Sade fan, I feel you — admit you wouldn’t have loved to hear “REDWOOD INDIGO” by Sade. Especially that rap bit toward the end of the track. Well, luckily you got Ms. Press on the track, because she’s also implementing the production work in her songs now too, beginning with “REDWOOD INDIGO.” And the more practice she gets developing these skills, the closer she’ll be to burning down the Brooklyn night life and headliners.
Continuing to grow as a character in her music, Abigail Press recently had some Euro-experience to uplift her lyrical range and poor into a vocal range of hushes and rhythms and wondering melodies. But even though I mentioned Sade earlier, “REDWOOD INDIGO” seems barely influenced by something specific, which is an important quality, as you can pick and choose from a variety of niche-bits of familiar sounds, but rarely placed together; light piano against stuttering hi-hats, brooding ambiance that becomes beat, and fades back into the snares all against a floating voice work makes “REDWOOD INDIGO” come together clean and on the brink of being wonderfully haphazard.
Enjoy the full single below, and scope out some Euro-filmed spots in her “REDWOOD INDIGO” [teaser] video above.
