My abacus may be slightly off, but it feels like only one year, four months, and two days ago that Dirty Projectors announced their previous album, Dirty Projectors. At any rate: time is just a construct of the mind, and today, Dirty Projectors have announced their brand new album, Lamp Lit Prose.
As a contrast, or perhaps reaction to last year’s self-titled effort, which re-cast Dirty Projectors as a more-or-less Dave Longstreth solo project, Lamp Lit Prose is all about collaborators, collaborators, and — wow Dave Longstreth knows a lot of musical people — more collaborators. Aside from the longtime Dirty Projectors rhythm section of Nat Baldwin and Mike Johnson, Longstreth’s cohorts on this lamp lit endeavor include Syd, Empress Of, Amber Mark, Haim, Rostam, Robin Pecknold, and Dear Nora.
To go along with their album announcement/humble brag of how many friends they have, Dirty Projectors have also shared a video for a new song called “Break-Thru,” as well as a laundry list of tour dates that start next week. If the last album wasn’t your thing, “Break-Thru” is more upbeat and twangy than anything off of that. If the last tour announcement wasn’t your thing…uhh, I hope you think shows in cities like Arcosanti, or at venues called Meow Wolf are cool?
Anyway, scroll on down to check out the artwork for Lamp Lit Prose — featuring the classic Dirty Projectors aesthetic of one blue bubble and one red bubble — watch the bird-heavy video for “Break-Thru,” and see if Dirty Projectors are coming to a town or delightfully named venue near you.
Lamp Lit Prose is out July 13 on Domino and can be pre-ordered here.
