The London producer typically known as “DVA” to fans and as “Leon Smart” to fans who like to creepily pretend they’re on familial terms with the Hyperdub stalwart is releasing a new album under his sporadically-used [Hi:Emotions] moniker. The album’s called NOTU_URONLINEU, and it’s out October 7 on Hyperdub. NOTU_URONLINEU was recorded entirely in the dark as a personal homage to Smart’s younger time spent listening to music with the lights off. Check the title track below for a wonderful tone of obvious jazz influence.
Further on the album summation front, Smart describes one of its themes: “The album project comes from a short visual story set in a time where a mega corporation H:E / Hi:Emotions is slowly taking control of everything, and plan to eventually make all people live life under one brand in virtual reality.” I can personally confirm the overall sound of the album being not unlike an alternate soundtrack to The Matrix. Don’t unplug us in this case, Keanu!
Full albums (as opposed to EPs) aren’t a frequent thing for DVA, so pre-order this on a page that doesn’t seem to exist yet.
