It’s like sad Christmas in the middle of summer! “Sad” because dark R&B genius Frank Ocean’s music is tinged with a certain melancholy that makes you either wanna sexy dance in a corner with your eyes closed or go curl up on your bed and cry… and then dust yourself off and sexy dance in that same lonely corner. “Christmas” because this July, Mr. Ocean is bearing enough gifts to make Santa retire to the North Pole Saloon and veer straight into a seasons-long bender out of envy. What kind of gifts, you say? Well, the Odd Future collaborator and smooth solo dude has a new album, Channel Orange, due July 17 via Def Jam. And you can pull that ribbon off some tourdates because Mr. Ocean is definitely coming to town.
That’s right — for a few magical, melancholy weeks this summer, Frank Ocean will be performing at venues across the US and Canada, ending with a very special Lollapalooza appearance. Channel Orange is Frank Ocean’s major label debut; last year’s nostalgia.ULTRA was self-released online and spawned collaborations with the likes of Kanye West, Beyoncé, and Jay-Z. (Fun fact: Frank Ocean worked behind-the-scenes for years writing hits for names like Brandy, John Legend and… JUSTIN BIEBER!!!!!!) Ocean just released the track “Pyramids” on SoundCloud as a teaser for the new album, which you can peep below whether you’ve been naughty or nice. In fact, just be naughty. There’s more to be sexy/sad about after.
