Hold on to your arpeggios: Montreal composer Kara-Lis Coverdale has shared and announced the official release date for her latest project, a 22-minute album by the name of Grafts. It’s out digitally and on vinyl April 28. On the one hand, that’s so soon that you won’t have to go long without that sweet disc on your turntable platter; on the other hand, that doesn’t really give Coverdale a lot of time to put out the three requisite pre-release singles and music videos every properly-marketed album demands. I have to wonder how this will affect sales.
Nonetheless, Grafts is a three-part ambient journey rendered through keys, samplers, and EQs that sources from inspirations as distinct as Terry Riley, Art of Noise, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Fennesz. It’s also Coverdale’s first new music since 2015, which saw the release of both record Aftertouches, as well as Sirens, a collaborative effort with LXV (check out TMT’s interview with the both of them to see how publicity is really done).
If you can’t wait a week to hear what brilliance Coverdale has cooked up, you can listen to a preview of Grafts below…but try not to get all hypnotized by it and forget to pick-up the real thing through Boomkat Editions’ store. Because that would definitely affect sales…
