Lower Dens had two choices.
1. Go on tour in support of their newest album The Competition.
2. Don’t go on tour in support of their newest album The Competition, and accept the fact that an evil version of Jana Hunter would lead Higher Foyers to all of the venues that were previously ready to be reserved.
The second scenario would lead to a subsequent scenario in which Ribbon Music reconsiders their roster and whether there is room for a band that specializes in microtonal gospel music when Lower Dens are all about socially conscious and occasionally somewhat melancholic pop music. The jostling for label resources and donuts would be unavoidable! Why aren’t our capitalist overseers perpetually warning us about the stoic tête-à-têtes that arise from our ostensibly free market society?
Anyway, Lower Dens is playing the game by necessity — so they’ve just announced a tour where they’ll be opening for the similarly pop-oriented band from Iceland, Of Monsters and Men, for the majority of the dates. I prefer the vibe of Lower Dens, though. They’re probably better at foosball, too.
