NAP gets lost in electronic categories, preps debut album Uncharted on 1080p

“Uncharted” isn’t a misnomer, as it turns out. And regardless of whether or not Vancouverite (but Colombia-born) Daniel Rincon intended the name as a direct commentary on his haughty deviation from the norms of electronic music, his upcoming debut album as NAP acknowledges subgenres seemingly the way a house cat acknowledges your extended hand: “Hm, that smells nice, now let me get the fuck on with it.” The cat then proceeds to go about his independently-minded business with a subconscious appreciation for the odors that inspired, attacking birds and creating amorphous tracks using the “cheapest guitar pedals, grooveboxes, and synths” available. How exactly does Rincon do it given his feline inability to handle tools?!

Uncharted will be available on cassette and via digital download July 7, courtesy of 1080p. Let me emphasize the fact that there’s definitely a recognizable house and/or IDM influence on some of the tracks, but it remains elusive, almost indifferent. Geographically proximal artists Jesse Creed (The Passenger) and Sophie Sweetland (D. Tiffany, who also has an affiliation with 1080p) helped out with the production.
