Now, more than ever, we want it all. But as the old saw goes, good things come to those who wait. Slow-cooked pulled pork in five minutes? It ain’t happening, folks. However, if you want passionate discourses on climate change accompanied by beauteous cello and voice, that we can bring ASAP!
Sticklers for tradition, Constellation Records also likes to deliver the goods promptly, and tomorrow it will issue the second album of Rebecca Foon’s amazing Saltland solo musings. A Common Truth is the follow-up to the debut Saltland gem I Thought It Was Us but It Was All of Us, and it can be purchased here. As a fan of the Montréal-based compagnie, it’s not surprising to me that it’s superb, but you can find out for yourself right here today, as TMT has the pleasure of premiering the album in its entirety.
As previously reported, Saltland’s A Common Truth contains not only Foon’s gorgeous cello-based arrangements but also lovely contributions from Warren Ellis (Dirty Three, Bad Seeds) on violin, pump organ, and loops. Jace Lasek (Besnard Lakes) and Ian Ilavsky (Constellation co-founder) help too, but this is very much Foon’s baby. As a dedicated climate diplomat and active participant/founder/router with eco-agencies Sustainability Solutions Group, Junglekeepers, and Pathway to Paris, Foon ruminates on what has become a sacred obligation to her and what should be to us, all backdropped by her sparse captivating compositions.
The tracklist for A Common Truth and the lone Saltland Brooklyn live date info are listed after the full album stream below. We have also listed May dates for Esmerine, Foon’s esteemed modern chamber music ensemble.
