RJD2 announces Dame Fortune, shares track
Cover of RJD2's sixth album, Dame Fortune

Hoping to cash in on internet typo culture in the wake of the Starry War, droid impersonator/crate-digger/hip-hop producer RJD2 has announced a brand new album, his sixth. It’s called Dame Fortune, and it’s out March 25 on his own Electrical Connections imprint. What’s a Starry War, and why is it relevant, you ask? Well, to take your questions in order: (1) I don’t know, and (2) because it’s always relevant — relevant like these links to TMT’s reviews of previous RJD2 albums, like 2002’s Deadringer, 2004’s Since Last We Spoke, 2007’s The Third Hand, and 2010’s The Colossus.

But back to the future tense robot shit: Dame Fortune draws inspiration from the time that RJD2 spent living in Philadelphia, integrating the sounds of soul music that he “stumbled across as a beat making nerd.” He’s just shared the album’s lead single “Peace of What,” which we’ve embedded below. It features vocalist Jordan Brown and pays heavy homage to Main Source’s “Peace is Not the Word to Play.”

And on top of all that, Mr. D2 is planning to hop in his space go-kart and putter round these United States come mid-January. He’ll play his music, sure, but he’ll also teach us all a thing or two about peace among the galaxies, which is something I think we could all stand to learn a bit more about.
