For the responsible smoker: Stones Throw presents Mild High Club. Music for those who love to get stoned, but not like those kids out there. Reasonable psych-pop for reasonable people. In plain terms, Mild High Club is the project of Midwestern jazz musician Alexander Brettin, whose press release states that he “sounds more like Todd Rundgren spilling bong-water on his Macbook than Charlie Parker.” That description is so amazing, I had to take a walk around my neighborhood, just thinking. Brettin’s recently been in L.A. playing with the likes of Ariel Pink, R. Stevie Moore, and Mac DeMarco. For those keeping score, that is Ariel Pink mention 1 of 2 in this story.
As the inaugural release for their new signing, Stones Throw has put out a Mild High Club 7-inch of his new single “Windowpane” with the B-side track “Weeping Willow.” You can hear “Windowpane,” but for the B-side, you’ll need to buy that 7-inch, baaaaaaabay. The project’s debut LP is due out for a spring release on Stones Throw and is set to feature guest vocals from Ariel Pink. That is Ariel Pink mention 2 of 2.
In the next few months, Mild High Club is set to play roughly a handful of California dates. It is a reasonable amount of shows for a reasonable person.
