Frog Eyes and Dead Oceans sitting in a tree, s-i-g-n-i-n-g. Uh-woo-ooh! It’s been a while since we’ve heard from our shambolic Canadian friends. In fact, last time we saw those folks, it was 2007 and they were releasing The Tears of the Valedictorian (TMT Review) on their old flame, Absolutely Kosher. Hopefully the two parties had an amicable break up, since Dead Oceans is totally flaunting its new relationship by releasing Frog Eyes’ new record, Paul’s Tomb: A Triumph. I don’t want to be a buzzkill to the happy lovers, but a tomb ain’t really a triumph. Usually means someone’s dead, bro.
Well, triumph or not, Paul’s Tomb will be coming out on April 27 (and April 26 in UK). “A Flower in a Glove,” the record’s opening track, can be heard over at the Chocolate Grinder. During its nine-minute runtime, you can decide whether or not Paul’s Tomb is a Beatles reference or not. You know, Paul is dead and all that. Could this be Frog Eyes’ big Beatles tribute record? Probably not, but we will see.
