The REAL problem of leisure: which Gang of Four one-off event to attend in London?

·

To hell with poverty: let’s get drunk on free wine and hors d’oeuvres ART MUSEUM STYLE!!!!!!! One hopes there will be canapes at least for our friends in seminal post-punk band Gang of Four during any of the very special one-off events taking place in London this June as part of the group’s “History’s Not Made for Great Men” series. After all, Gang of Four’s Jon King and Andy Gill are kicking things off by conversing with author and former A&R dude John Niven on June 7 at 1-5 Exchange Court in Covent Garden. What says finger sandwiches and Bordeaux more than a salon-style chat with a fellow artist? Fun fact: Niven is perhaps best known for Kill Your Friends, a novel about a music industry insider who could probably show Bret Easton Ellis’ Bateman brothers a thing or two in the nastiness department.

The adventure continues with a live performance by Gang of Four on June 9 at the Institute of Contemporary Arts. Expect a sneak peek of the band’s upcoming full-length, Content, currently scheduled for a September release. Whilst at the ICA, fans can also check out photos of the band, Gang of Four art and artifacts, and prints by Gill and King based on the artwork for the new album. There’s also a listening station where people can check out a recently rediscovered cassette tape of the group’s first show ever.
