Tiny Mix Tapes

Alela Diane appears on two recent albums, books small tour in July; you’re lucky I found out, because she doesn’t know what the internet is

·

Alela Diane might be the only person ever to attempt to sew a website. Until recently, her internet presence consisted of some dried wildflowers and lace pinned to a yellowing photograph. Perhaps some stray troubadour with knowledge of basic HTML got lost and wandered into the forest clearing where Diane and her cat frolic, as she now has a home page with embedded Quicktime videos of live performances. I should be kinder, though, as she has also acquired a Facebook page, a t-shirt shop, and a blog with pictures of breakfast.

Diane has contributed a cover of “There’s Only One” to the upcoming compilation Be Yourself: A Tribute to Graham Nash’s Songs For Beginners. Released May 25, the salute to the ‘Simple Man’ also contains tracks from Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Vetiver, and Robin Pecknold of Fleet Foxes. Diane also appears on the track “The Tree” from the upcoming album from her 2009 tourmates Blitzen Trapper. In fact, the album, Destroyer Of The Void, is due today, the band’s fifth and most aggressively-titled LP yet.

Diane is currently at home in Portland, allegedly working on her 2011 album. We can’t be sure what she’s doing at this exact moment because she doesn’t know about Twitter yet, but she will certainly be touring soon. Tweet #AlelaDiane @TMTzine to win tickets! Just kidding, you have to mail her a locket containing photos of your seafaring ancestors just to get the tourdates. Luckily for you, I already did that:
