Sometimes you spend two years dating someone and then, a week after graduation, s/he just stops calling you and disappears. And sometimes a well-known band decides to call it quits with the the only explanation being a reference to “financial and personal pratfalls.” It hurts both times.
Mobius Band, who released two albums on Ghostly International (2005’s The Loving Sounds of Static [TMT Review] and 2007’s Heaven) and could easily be described as “electro-indie-pop from Brooklyn,” have announced they will be breaking up. The announcement, which came by way of the band’s email list, also thanked everyone whoever helped the band out and made sure to mention the current projects of all three members, Peter Sax’s Ladies and Gentlemen, Noam Schatz and LOLFM, and Ben Sterling with Cookies.
But still, no explanation? That’s mysterious and a dick move. Makes me wonder if “financial and personal pratfalls” means “we sold all of our equipment, bought a house boat, and totally regret the move,” which would definitely be something that you don’t want people to know.
