Sons, lock up your dads: Wilco to start work on new album this month!

·

Pat Sansone must be really proud of his reputation as “Wilco’s utility infielder.” I mean, the man has a pretty full schedule these days in his own right. For instance, this thursday (October 7), he’s hosting a party at Paper Chase Press’ Eighth Veil space in L.A. in celebration of the release of his new book, 100 Polaroids, which commemorates his past six years on Boss Tweedy’s payroll. Then, on November 2, he and Wilco bassist John Stirratt are releasing (via Yep Roc) the latest creation of their long-running Autumn Defense side-project, the full-length Once Around.

And yet, darned if he didn’t manage to turn a story about himself into a story about Wilco. In a recent interview with the L.A. Times while plugging his Autumn Defense record, Sansone drops a rather conspicuous Wilco-bomb. “When I get back toward the end of [the] month, we’re getting back together to start working, to start the first writing sessions for the record,” he says. “We’ve done a little bit of brainstorming, but the real work is going to begin at the end of [the] month.” Aaaaand, cue the media frenzy over the prospect of a new Wilco release (this would be the band’s eighth, to be exact) sometime next year and prompt overshadowing of the Autumnal Collective or whatever their name is…

What’s up with this, Pat? Maybe you just thought that this wouldn’t be big news because of how, you know, not great Wilco (The Album) (TMT Review) turned out? Or maybe you’re just a polite dude who doesn’t like to talk about himself too much? Either way, I’ve already slapped a Wilco headline on this story. I trust that’s cool with you?
