Everything is the same and everything is different and Toro Y Moi announces new record Underneath the Pine

·

Think back to earlier this year, when bedroom electro guy Toro Y Moi released his debut album Causers of This (TMT Review). It was a good time in everybody’s lives, with Toro Y Moi, who people in real life and not the internet call Chaz Bundick, definitely releasing that first album. I wish we could all go back to that time, but maybe slightly different.

Good news, we can! Much like the glory days of 2010, Bundick is putting out a record in 2011, this time one titled Underneath the Pine. Initially, the record was slated for release this year, with Bundick stating something along the lines of “I’m going to release two records this year, one that’s electronic and one with live instrumentation.” But Mr. Y Moi got real super busy and was only able to put out the electronic one, so now that organic one is coming out on February 22 via Carpark Records. Evidently, the new record finds Bundick exploring very similar musical directions as his first record, albeit in a completely different manner. He also spent quite some time listening to film composers Ennio Morricone and Francois de Roubaix, so if February rolls around and your Underneath the Pine review needs a bit of padding, throw in a couple of “Morricone-esques” and “Roubaix-ishs” in there.

Underneath the Pine tracklist:

03. Go with You
04. Divina
05. Before I’m Done
06. Got Blinded
07. How I Know
08. Light Black
09. Still Sound
10. Good Hold
11. Elise
