Constellation Records will be releasing a drool-inducing 5CD/5LP box set containing the entire Tindersticks’ Claire Denis soundtrack work over the past 15 years (four by the band, Vendredi Soir by Dickon Hinchliffe, and L’Intrus by Stuart Staples). And FOUR of the six soundtracks have never been released (everything except Nanette et Boni and Trouble Every Day). Claire Denis Film Scores 1996-2009 is out April 26 but will illicit premature elations from now until Vendredi soir, at least.
Of course the box set itself is something special, too. From Constellation:
The set will be housed in a custom window-cut slipcase made from deluxe black uncoated 18pt cardstock with foil embossing — sleeve cover images will shine through the window cut when inserted in the package. Also included is a 48pp perfect-bound booklet with extensive color plates of film stills and an essay (in English and in French translation) by renowned music writer Michael Hill (who has also contributed liner notes for collections by Lou Reed, Sam Cooke, The Replacements and others).
Fuck the music! (or, as Cee Lo would say, “Forget the music!”) Just having this set in your collection will up the resale value of your house by 9%!
The sharp-dressed men will celebrate the box set release and their partnership with Denis by playing a unique set of dates featuring their soundtrack sounds in front of Denis’ film images. The first of these shows will be on April 26 in London, England at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. The day after (that’d be April 27), a special screening of Nenette et Boni followed by an onstage Q&A with ‘Sticks singer Stuart Staples and Claire Denis will take place at the BFI Southbank in London. A Los Angeles show is also confirmed at the end of April, but considering the provocation for these shindigs came via a San Francisco Film Festival invitation, expect a similar spectacle to be announced there in May.
