The Avalanches, Spiritualized, Sonny Rollins, Odd Future, and more head down under for Australia’s Vivid Live; put another bad joke on the barbie!

·

The Avalanches, Sonny Rollins, Odd Future, Chris Cunningham, Cut Copy, Bat for Lashes, and others have all been announced as part of the lineup for Sydney, Australia’s Vivid Live, a series of concerts that will all take place at Sydney’s fan-favorite Opera House. The music festival is part of Sydney’s annual Vivid Sydney (May 27 - June 13), an annual “festival of light, music, and ideas” that “celebrates the city as a leader in the field of the creative and cultural industries both nationally and throughout the region.”

However, most of the artists involved in the concert series are mostly looking forward to the chance to repeatedly tell native Australians: “That’s not a knife; now this, this is a knife,” before brandishing a large hunting knife, to the astonishment of onlookers. Band members are generally elated to make this, and many other tired, old, unfunny jokes because let’s face it, it’s what most people know about Australia; expect plenty of jokes about vegemite and Mad Max.

This year the music festival is curated by Stephen ‘Pav’ Pavlovic, founder of the hugely successful Sydney-based record label Modular. The complete lineup is as follows: Bat for Lashes, Sonny Rollins, Spiritualized, Chris Cunningham, Yo Gabba Gabba (?), Cut Copy, Tame Impala, Architecture in Helsinki, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, OFWGKTA, Wu Lyf, Azari & III, The Crystal Ark, The Avalanches (DJ set), 2ManyDJs, Lucky Dragons, Dom, Bag Raiders, Sneaky Sundays, Daniele Baldelli,Canyons, Horse Meat Disco, Superbien, Mad Racket, The Swiss, Tom Kuntz, Beni, Van She, Flight Facilities, Club Kooky, Softwar, Bamboo Musik, and Changes.
