Since what seems like the dawn of time, Matt “MV” Valentine has been cranking out (and cranking out) albums from the back of his little grass shack in Kealakekua… er, Vermont. Normally, such obsessive ejaculating of music eventually paralyzes creativity and castrates consumer interest, but with MV each sweet release is always a fresh endeavor. We can’t help it; those irresistible rural psych nuggets make us weak in the nards and in the cookies. Haven’t experienced that uncertain feeling south of the equator? Well, the best time to get into MV may have been years ago but don’t fret… the nth best time is right now because he is to release his latest record, What I Became, tomorrow!
Valentine can be a consummate cavorter, hooking up and downing tracks with a bevy of partners. This time around he is the lone wolf, recording (most of) What I Became by himself at his Maximum Arousal Farm studio/home. And from what we’ve heard, it is yet another lovely change o’ pace from this steady seducer. What I Became is out this week on Woodsist and features very little help from Jeremy Earl (Woods), Mike Smith (Muskox), and constant twin spirit Erika “EE” Elder.
