Drag City duo 200 Years are Elisa Ambrogio and Ben Chasny, both of whom had successful careers with different bands prior to creating, implementing, and road-testing 200 Years. And it’s to our benefit they’ve decided to do so because November’s eponymous debut LP (TMT Review) proved that both had taken everything they’d learned prior, combining forces mystically, and not only showed they’ve still got their singular musical chops fine-tuned but also provided ample evidence that they also work incredibly well together.
Much like the fabled relationship of such past greats as chocolate and peanut butter or beer and pizza, Ambrogio and Chasny display a definite, comfortable knack for working together to better kick out proverbial jams. They haven’t played much as a unit live — their individual personal schedules keep the days pretty full — so this is a nice Easter treat for all the well-behaved girls and boys. Speaking of personal schedules, Chasny recently reported on his Six Organs of Admittance website that he’d recently finished recording a version of Roland S. Howard’s song “Shivers” for a special 7-inch with buddy Fabrizio Palumbo who also recorded the song for the other side of the 7-inch; the single is due this May.
