As our knowledge of the Universe increases, a central question seems to loom even larger in the minds of physicists, astronomers, and non-scientists alike: if extraterrestrials exist, why is there no definitive case of them ever having made physical contact with us? Of course, I can already feel the tinfoil-hat wearers around Roswell, New Mexico, channeling their disagreement with my premise, and to a degree, they have a point; we do know of at least one alien life form who continues to shock and mystify human beings around the world. That would be Anticon co-founder and exemplar of eccentricity, rapper Doseone a.k.a. Adam Drucker. His lyrics are more philosophically confusing than an Ayn Rand novel, and his vocals give rise to suspicions that his nose has been permanently clamped, but any listener who feels less than enamored by all of this is, quite frankly, lying, or an alien themselves. That’s right, I just called you an alien.
Aside from his role in the founding of Anticon, Doseone has historically built up his name recognition through collaborative projects based within the label itself; albums from cLOUDDEAD, Subtle, Themselves, and 13 & God all feature his schizophrenic delivery, and all were warmly received by fans who almost certainly had no idea what was going on, but knew that it sounded both ridiculously awesome and awesomely ridiculous. On May 29, Doseone will be releasing G Is for Deep, his first truly solo album on the label.
A disclaimer for those expecting a mirror image of his previous work: a press release notes that on this album, “he veers away from the tourettic, breathlessly fast rap that brought him to prominence and toward a bent form of electronic pop music.” Get an immediate sense of what that means right here:
