Oh. Dude, you didn’t take that whole “Record Store Day” thing seriously, did you? I mean, it was just a gag, man. Come on, you know how it is when you’re working press for a rock band, don’t you? All that “exclusive release” talk was just to fill the page! Sheesh! So what if you didn’t get to buy the Flaming Lips collaborative double-album, featuring the likes of Ke$ha, Bon Iver, Nick Cave, Lightning Bolt, Tame Impala, Erykah Badu, and Chris Martin? No problem! It’s coming out for real on June 26! In physical and digital formats! Which actually makes it “better” than the Record Store Day one, if you think about it. Maybe. I don’t know. Whatever! Point IS: who cares about stores??? What are you anyway, “corporate?” Shut the fuck up, already, you stooge. It’s all about the music, man.
Oh yeah, but speaking of it being all about the music, I forgot to mention that a lot of times it’s not all about the music. Sometimes it’s about moving around from one place to another faster than the last guy did while playing that music. Case in point: the day after Heady Fwends comes out, the band will be breaking some guy who goes by the initials “J.Z.“‘s record for most concerts performed in one 24-hour period. Which seems like a cool idea… unless you’re all hung-up on supporting the record stores or whatever.
