“Bounce to the Woods beat/ Bounce to the Woods beat/ Bounce to the Woods beat/ Bounce to the Woods beat/ Bounce to the Woods beat/ Get it girl.” (x47)
The above, as you can well see, are the lyrics to the first single from the new Woods record, Bend Beyond. Well. I haven’t actually heard the song. I’m just guessing, but I’m sure that I am right. If there’s one thing we know from Woods’ past records, the likes of which include last year’s Sun and Shade (TMT Review) and 2010’s At Echo Lake (TMT Review), it’s that they make everybody wanna move their butts. On September 18, Bend Beyond will come out through the band’s own Woodsist label and everyone will start moving their butts again. All year, the butts have remained still. Before that, some butts will move to the album’s first single via a limited 7-inch on sale during their West Coast tour with Peaking Lights.
Though known for their high energy bounce sound, Woods is doing something a little different for Bend Beyond. Previous Woods albums were marked by the band’s process of an immediacy-focused recording style, the sort in which the band would record songs minutes after writing. This time around, the band chose a more drawn-out approach as a way to capture the group’s live dynamic. So, the band got together in Woods leader’s Jeremy Earl’s home to party for a million days and also lay down tracks for the new record. How will the songs fare? Let your butt be the guide.
