Australia’s Adelaide Festival is the sort of event that seems so magical, so innovative, so inspiring that it exists only in an opium dream dreamt by a unicorn who was listening to a lot of Motörhead when she dozed off in a field of fresh, spring daisies. It’s that amazing. But it’s real! Totally and gloriously real! And this year it takes place in the beautiful South Australian capital of Adelaide from March 1-17.
The Adelaide Festival encompasses all things that are good in life — from theatre, music, dance, literature, art, film, and what looks from the website to be a lobster flying off into space, toward a more promising future. But perhaps the most amazing part of all is the fest’s Unsound Adelaide event, in which only the dreamiest artists in music today melt your eardrums into a slush of love, awe, and in the case of Demdike Stare, lingering, gnawing fear.
Over the course of March 14-17 at the Queen’s Theatre, Tim Hecker, Daniel Lopatin, Hype Williams, Raime, Actress, Lustmord, Ben Frost, Robin Fox, Biosphere, MFO, Pole, and the aforementioned Demdike Stare with Zephyr Quartet and Friends will ruin your lives over how amazing three days can be and how you either a) cannot afford a ticket to Australia or b) are going and already ruing the fact that you’ll never have those days to live over again. Either way, ruination awaits! But in an awesome, mists of time slipping through your fingers/we’re all just living in a Lisa Frank unicorn’s drug dream sorta way.
