Laurel Halo offers details on new Hyperdub EP, yet again denies writers the satisfaction of making Full House jokes

·

As it was reported, so shall it be: Laurel Halo has announced the full details for her new EP on Hyperdub, called Behind the Green Door. If only she had swapped out “red” for “green” I would’ve had the chance to make my long-threatened joke about an imaginary tell-all John Stamos memoir (Behind the Red Door, obvi) that would have covered all the weird and supernatural shit that went down on the set of Full House during the 90s. (For real, this joke is very long-threatened and I am dead serious about it. I’ve lost friends over it — if you can’t stand the Full House joke heat, you better get out of the friendship fire, am I right?). As it stands, the title seems to be a reference to a “classic” porn film from the 70s.

According to The Quietus, the EP represents a bit of a stylistic shift for Laurel Halo, integrating more elements of Detroit techno and contemporary UK club music. These four tracks will reportedly be “dancefloor-ready,” as opposed to the really socially awkward tracks off 2012’s Quarantine (TMT Review) which, when asked to join their friends on the dancefloor mostly hemmed and hawed and ended up hiding in the bathroom for most of the night with the cool kids. And sure, like the porn it references, this EP will probably be available for free on the Internet, but you can also buy it from Hyperdub on May 20 if you’re not, you know, a freeloading jerkface.

Behind the Green Door tracklist:

01. Throw
02. UHFFO
