Kill Rock Stars to release album of Kurt Braunohler and Kristen Schaal’s Hot Tub comedy (not to be confused with Hot Tub Time Machine comedy)

·

Are you ready to LOL, world??? Good! Because Kill Rock Stars — seemingly the only record label left on this planet that knows that “music” is just a word we use for “unfunny comedy” — is gearing up to release its first-ever album of pure, unadulterated, and presumably-RATED-XXX comedy! HAHAHAHA. Huh?

Set for release as a double album this fall, the thing is being billed by the label as a “take-home version of [comedians] Kurt Braunohler and Kristen Schaal’s long-running ‘Hot Tub’ variety show” that takes place weekly in this horrible place called Los Angeles. The basic thrust behind the album is that Braunohler and Schaal have picked out 10 of their favorite comedian-buddies and are putting on a two-night show (originally scheduled for June 23 and 30 at L.A.’s The Virgil, but now unfortunately postponed as Schall is unable to perform); meanwhile, some little greasy schlub like you or me will be recording that shit for terrible pay and a few comp drinks so that KRS can release the whole shebang as a snazzy double vinyl/digital album later this year.

Though the recording dates have to be rescheduled, the shows will go on (sans Schall): guests for June 23 include Nate Bargatze, Emily Heller, Andres du Bouchet, Beth Stelling, and Karen Kilgariff; and those for June 30 include Kyle Kinane, Heather Lawless, Eddie Pepitone, Eugene Mirman, and Aparna Nancherla. Get your tix fix right over here if’n you live in L.A. or are an insanely devoted Eddie Pepitone fan living in Siberia or something. Otherwise just wait patiently for the album version when it drops. I don’t know about you, but I’ve always thought that comedy sounds funnier on vinyl.
