Remember back in June when UNO NYC popped off their three year UNOversary and everyone was all prostrate at the throne of the great great pun, and I found myself wondering what those crazy New-York-based kids would think of next? Well, they’ve probably thought of a whole bunch of things since then, seeing as how it was almost three months ago, but maybe the most notable thing they thought of was releasing a new self-titled EP by Aquarian. Congratulations on the good thought, UNO NYC. Why, I might even go so far as to say that you’ve shown yourselves to be true thought leaders in the fringe-probing techno industry.
The Aquarian EP is out October 21, and it’s available for pre-order through iTunes right now. UNO NYC’s thought-leading techno team-up doesn’t begin and end with this upcoming self-titled release, though. You might, perhaps recall a few little somethings called Obsidian from 2012 or Fan Death in 2013. That’s right: also Aquarian releases for UNO NYC. The new release tightens the straps on Aquarian’s aesthetic, which “walks the line from brutalist UK techno to drum machine work out electro and further down the line to the junglist ethos of yore.” What that means for you is simple: strap on your suspenders before diving in to the Loris Lamuniere-directed video for “SOMA” below, or else you get your pants blown clean off.
And, as for news/thoughts more specifically related to things happening within 24 hours of now, UNO is also hosting a label showcase at Westway in New York this evening. Featuring two rooms for performances, and sets from the likes of Gobby, James K, and Ian Isiah, the whole thing will surely rage in a way that I’m not entirely sure is appropriate for a Wednesday night. Peep the details here.
