Halloween is less than three weeks away, and I still haven’t gotten close to my self-imposed October horror film viewing quota. All is not lost, though, for today Chocolate Grinder’s resident Monster hipped me to the concept of the haunted pumpkin. “You don’t pick it; it picks you.”
This too seems to be the case with the Trick ‘r Treat score composed by Douglas Pipes and soon to be issued on vinyl by the horror cinephiles over at Waxwork Records. As I learned today by freakish coincidence, Trick ‘r Treat, the film directed by Michael Dougherty, tracks the movements of a diminutive trick-or-treater who wears a burlap sack to mask his jack-o-lantern-shaped cranium. The name of this 21st century pumpkin-head? Sam! So you see, C was right. The haunted pumpkin picks you.
The Trick ‘r Treat score gets its first ever release on October 28 and comes packaged with a full sleeve of treats, including: deluxe heavyweight tip-on gatefold jacket with satin coating, full artwork and design by Francesco Francavilla, liner notes by director Michael Dougherty and composer Douglas Pipes, an inserted 11” x 22” poster, and a Bonus Spooky Sound-FX Album, from which the “Rock Quarry” track below was taken. Pre-orders start October 14.
