Thanks, Jack White: United Record Pressing booked up for at least three months, opening second plant

·

Has your aunt told you the news? Vinyl is back, baby, and boy, the kids just can’t get enough of the black waxy stuff! That is, they would if they could actually get their hands on some: 2014 saw a huge spike in delayed LP releases as the nation’s pressing plants struggled to keep up with ever-increasing demand.

Unfortunately, it looks like 2015 might offer up more of the same. Just before the new year, Nashville’s United Record Pressing released a statement saying that they would be taking no new orders for at least the first quarter of the year. On the bright side, the company also announced that they’re only a few months away from cutting the ribbon on a new plant, an expansion that will eventually triple capacity. For now, though, all new orders will be restricted until United Record Pressing says differently, presumably so Jack White can press an album that flips itself or makes phone calls to pornstars or something else really super cool that totally doesn’t cheapen the format or cause enormous delays in the first place.
