Last time I mentioned the Memphis weblabel ЯΛRΞ ППUƉΞS, they were still operating in relative obscurity, creating jacked tunes that sounded like a hybrid between Gucci Mane and The Matrix. The label emerged in the infancy of post-internetdom, but instead of shunning their human forms like Vektroid or PC Music, ЯΛRΞ ППUƉΞS crafted ironic, self-referential art out of the internet itself, preying on our narcissism and our Attention Deficit High Definition (Music Consumption) Disorder tendencies. Since then, the label has amassed a large base of internet followers, and has spread to include artists of many different styles, from harsh electronic noise, to ex-breakcore lord Ilkae. They’ve also released over 70 digital albums, with most of the artwork designed by the core group of Memphians.
There’s your primer to these trill, rare dudes, who y’all should start fucking paying attention to. They literally are the internet. Fun fact about Bored Lord , who was profiled by Vice last fall: if you Google Bored Lord, an inexplicable line of characters cuts straight down the screen. Try Googling anything else, and the line goes away. That’s some digital mischief for you.
The latest ЯΛRΞ ППUƉΞS on the label appears to be a compilation, but it bears no artist credits. It’s admittedly hard to keep up with the label, which drops an album every week, but it wouldn’t be a stretch to say this is their strongest work to date.
