Animal Collective release 10th anniversary vinyl edition of Vashti Bunyan collab Prospect Hummer for Record Store Day

·

Record Store Day is a horrific day that doesn’t let you escape your past. If your past is an EP you made 10 years ago with legendary folk artist Vashti Bunyan, well, good luck trying not to get that released on vinyl for RSD (that stands for “Really Sad Day”). Yep, if you’re Animal Collective then you have the worst of luck.

The idea for the EP came about when the group met Vashti while touring with Four Tet across the UK in 2003. In April 2004, the album was recorded by Rusty Santos at Idle Luxury studios in London over three days, featuring Vashti and AC members Avey Tare, Panda Bear, and Deakin. A fourth track for the EP, “Baleen Sample,” was later recorded using samples from fourth member, Geologist. You may not have noticed Prospect Hummer, as it was released in early 2005, just months before the memorable full-length Feels, but now is your chance to get all up on that donkey dick.

Fans can rejoice in the misery of Animal Collective as FatCat Records releases the first-time, remastered vinyl pressing on April 18, featuring full-color artwork in the inner and outer sleeves. With this primarily acoustic album back in the limelight, fans can bug the bros to do more of that shit again, plus “I Remember Learning How to Dive” might be that inspirational track to get you to finally make that dumb adult decision you’ve been holding back on.
