Kiasmos are an Icelandic duo consisting of Ólafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen. They released their debut self-titled LP last October, and since I’m sure Erased Tapes put in a considerable amount of effort trying to get us to open our ears to its brilliance, I’m going to blame the subsequent under-appreciation not on a devastating release temporally close to the compilation of our year-end lists, but a… aw, fuck it. There is no excuse. The collective we in the music journalism trade owe everyone involved a huge favor. Can I be offered a free trip to Iceland so that I may deliver some Long John Silver’s personally? Long John reps tell me it’s nearly as good as the local Nordic fare.
Or here’s another, more practical attempt at atonement: Kiasmos have a new limited-edition EP out April 18 (Record Store Day), and they’re going on a short North American tour beginning this May. Looper features a remix from the specially sought Ghostly producer Dauwd, who remarked in a press release about what a pleasure it was to work with music that already had “so much texture and warmth.”
Quite so! Here’s the original and the remix, with tour dates following:
