Do you remember where you were and exactly who you were with the moment when definitely-cooler-than-Oasis “Britpop” band Blur announced that they were releasing their first new album in 12 years, called The Magic Whip this past spring?
Well, FORGET THOSE TWO THINGS RIGHT NOW, because otherwise you won’t have enough brain space to remember the exactly two(yes, count ‘em, two: 2) shows that the band (by which I’m fairly sure I definitely maybe mean Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James, and Dave Rowntree) is ambitiously endeavoring to play this October on American soil! One of them is at the biggest, coolest venue on the West Coast and the other is at the biggest, coolest venue on the East Coast. As for everyone who lives in the pathetic “middle district” of the United States? Tough shit. Move out of the sticks.
Tickets to both of those giant shows on what some critics are probably calling the “coolest and laziest tour ever” go on sale June 20 at 10 AM, according to the band’s website. And ALSO according to the band’s website, there’s some sort of “official comic book” titled Travel to Hong Kong with Blur, created by “famed Hong Kong artist Kongkee of Penguin Lab and inspired by The Magic Whip,” that’ll be available at these shows as well. Ah, talk about incentives! I’m going to start hitchhiking my way from here in Chicago to whichever coast I can get to quickest immediately.
