Copout - “Further (Reprise)” “Further (Reprise)”

·

For me, Liminal Sounds is the label that kicked off the instrumental grime surge that we have been experiencing over the last few years with their weighty collection of remixes of Youngstar’s classic Pulse X cut — the Rebirth-made monster that is sometimes cited as being ground zero for instrumental grime — reigniting general interest in a genre that hadn’t been truly popular since the beginning of the millennium. They may not be the most prolific or most well-known label, but they are one of the most consistent and on-point. When they release a record, dammit, you stand up and pay attention.

Their latest release is no exception to the rule, with new signee Copout dropping his angular, sino-grime-tinged Bardo EP, a record that defies expectation with organic arrangements and human structures that fly in the face of the genre’s 8-bar standard. The fact the boy can belt out melodies like no tomorrow is par for the course for a label that wallows in a club-ready, yet dancefloor-transcendent aesthetic that reprocesses and hoovers up influences like Henry himself.

We have managed to grab the final track of the just-released EP, the mournful “Further (Reprise),” which you should wrap your earholes around now:
