I agree, the existence of so-called “fresh air” is superfluous in the company of engaging aromas wafting onshore from polluted urban runoff, because at least the latter has the capacity to non-verbally tell me what I want for dinner on any given night. There isn’t much chance that you’ll come across discarded Chinese food out in the country and likewise is the risk of discovering a virtual wardrobe of unappreciated, seemingly pooped-out garments kept at a minimum. So it’s no wonder that Liverpool-born producer Dialect (Andrew PM Hunt) chose the blatant opposite environment for his recent musical inspirations. As the 1080p overview on the subject makes clear, Dialect’s new album Gowanus Drifts is less about Wall Street than the sewage being “traded” underneath, at no cost to the investors.
For those unaware: Gowanus is an area of Brooklyn that was once a hub of industrial and shipping activity. It’s also in the vicinity of where Dialect recorded his new release. The area reminded him of his hard childhood surroundings, and the album itself is thus a more drone-y undertaking than his prior Advanced Myth. The sax still makes an appearance though, along with not-quite-as-obvious field recordings, all of which makes the whole thing hard to genre pigeonhole. Best you just listen to the track below and wait until August 28 for the cassette and digital completes.
Also, wait! Hunt himself recently uploaded the entirety of Advanced Myth, so don’t feel bad about listening to that one here.
