How melted am I getting this summer whilst Audio Rebel in Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro is heating up their winter with acts like VASO coming through? Like, this live video (Excerpt) of “I” is burning. Only other time I experienced something is jazz-gored was in SXSW, when these dudes in dirty clown costumes played some even more trashed looking instruments (drum, stand-up bass, sax-of-some-phone), and they probably looked just as composed and focused as the quartet of VASO, but I’d never know. Though, I’m not actually viewing the YouTube live video of “I” right now as I’m writing, and it sounds like a distant echo of every last soul being sucked off this Earth. Maybe it’s the sound of reborn Scientology.
Okay, it’s not the sound of reborn Scientology, but is sure as shit well thought- and felt-out. It’s certainly goo practice in both craftsmanship of the experimental and improvisation tainted master-level instrumentation. They pretty much got together and were like, “How can we make an improv quartet sound like a desolate haven of suffering screams?” OMG, it’s is so manic, I love it because I can’t. I can’t figure out directions. Find your light below in their most recent release QTV 009:
