Come, my love, and take my hand as we journey into the gilden hallways of melancholy. No, not that hand — that is my candelabra-wielding hand. This hand. The one in the luxurious black velvet glove. Let us stop here, my love, beneath the weeping willows of ephemerality, for I have something I must tell you: Tropic of Cancer has a new EP, called Stop Suffering, and it will come to us, my gentle wraith, on October 30, just before our highest holy day, International Orthopaedic Nurses Day. I kid, my love, I kid! Just before Halloween, of course, but you already knew that. Oh yeah, it’s also on Blackest Ever Black.
Imagine the euphoria tinged with the sad sweetness of inconsolable yearning as we listen to this wondrous new release on either 12-inch vinyl or “digital formats.” It is Camella Lobo’s first release since 2013’s Restless Idles, and it features three new songs: “Stop Suffering,” “I Woke Up And The Storm Was Over,” and “When The Dog Bites.” They were all recorded by Lobo herself with Joshua Eustis (Sons of Magdalene, Telefon Tel Aviv) taking on the mixing and mastering.
Tropic of Cancer will tour Europe this autumntide, with a performance at the Five Wretched Years of Blackest Ever Black soiree at Berlin’s Berghain. Perhaps we could venture to one of these dates, my love, but alas, your mysterious condition will not prevent it. We will speak no more of such unattainable visions and instead preview this divine recording of “Stop Suffering” and then, perhaps, watch Netflix and chill.
