Co La announces West Coast tour, carbonates new track

·

Will Matt Papich’s friends be offering tray champagne service this time around, even though the risk is surely higher that audience members will smash their flutes on the heads of the people in front of them? Gone are the days in which we could enjoy a smattering of samples without feeling the need to fist bump to the point of instantaneous carpal tunnel; Co La’s newest album and tape No No, released simultaneously by Software and 1080p just last week, doesn’t stop short of brutalizing listeners with a relentless, cacophonous homage to the club scene in his hometown of Baltimore. By the end of it, you may be very well be echoing an included Missy snippet, seriously or not: “Oooooh, I don’t want…,” or can’t take, anymore.

But the live thing is a totally different story! Papich hopes that those of you in Los Angeles, Portland, and Seattle will have remnants of No No coursing through your veins, so that the individual affair isn’t what would’ve been a typical one of simple observation. The new music compels something physical; Jam City comparisons are surprisingly accurate (as you can tell by the new track, “Crank,” below); and we can only know the future once we reach it. This may be Co La’s thing now.
