Cold calls are terrifying and more times than not an easy invitation to a rejection party. The kind where someone knocks over the punch bowl within the first few minutes of getting there. Or you break a spice rack that belonged to the homeowner’s great-grandmother and feel terrible for weeks even though they said they “saw the whole thing” and “it was a freak accident.” Either way, the room clears and you’re left with regrets and a feeling of emptiness. A gut feeling I can only assume relentless mass-email PR reps are immune to, but the rest of us reach with ease.
tirestires shot shadow dog through my email in early December with an album description of “42 MINUTE CONCEPT ALBUM 4 YEARS IN THE MAKING. SONGS ABOUT FURRY PORN AND TROLLING UNDERAGE ON MESSAGE BOARDS AND MY MOM.” What was linked was 21 tracks of weird pop splatter art. A sound that would tour with a Meth Dad or Terror Pigeon or fill the a slot during the all too short-lived Florida Total Bummer Fest. It’s early Gobble Gobble turned down three notches on the “huh, that’s weird” meter. It’s streaming below and free through their Bandcamp.
