One thing that seems to be missing from all too many remix projects is a genuine respect for the source material — not here, though. Bearded Philly bard Zilla Rocca calls Queensbridge his “favorite borough of NYC rap,” and despite the fact that Queensbridge isn’t a borough, you know what he means, and more importantly, listening to these remixes, you can feel the love. There are no misguided attempts at outdoing the original songs here, no wide-eyed reinterpretations that miss their mark, no bullshit at all, really; just hard-body homages that pay forward the hollow-point impact Mobb, Nas, Noyd and company clearly had on a young Zilla Rocca. Blaow!
