Venetian Snares announces Traditional Synthesizer Music, recorded live in a pit of patch cables

·

Aaron Funk a.k.a. Venetian Snares experienced unexpected financial hardship toward the end of summer 2015, and how did he repay the requested money that poured in once fans made their appreciation thoroughly known? As if we weren’t already spoiled as a result of his casual prolificacy and lovable tendency to synthetically melt faces, Venetian Snares released Thank You for Your Consideration free of charge less than two weeks after initially expressing his troubles via Twitter. A claim of still being “royally screwed” aside, it’s apparent that Funk remains stable enough to selflessly deliver tunes, and an obvious indication of that is his recently publicized bank account number new album on Planet Mu/Timesig.

Traditional Synthesizer Music is out February 19, and fans accustomed to the relative thematic changes in Funk’s music should expect supplemental variation this time around. Per the album’s title (and a press description), the release was created live using a mod synth, without subsequent editing or overdubbing. As much as we might miss those Star Trek recollections, the result is something superficially simplified but still very obviously complex. It’s still breakcore, I suppose!
