After having covered the previous two releases for New York label Psychic Troubles, it’d be easy to assume they’re dropping either a delicate acoustic tape or a dark ambient burner, but Allover’s debut Afterimage churns and grinds along a darker, noisier path. The Kansas City based project has assembled a sprawling, loose set of tunes that are equal parts chaotic and serene. The label cites “early Faust and Wolf Eyes at their most accessible,” and I’d be inclined to include Sonic Youth’s soundtrack to Fabrice Gobert’s Simon Werner a disparu among the favorable comparisons. Cop the tape, crank it loud, and crank it often.
