At camp, long live the fire of plastic and paper. Long live stage sets, humbuckers, magnetic tape, and Morricone.
Volumes of rain, enough for retreat. Volumes of rain, denser than a bookcase. It speaks volumes about a man that he can… that he can… well, I’m at a loss for words, but you know what I mean, don’t you? Don’t you know what I mean, know what I mean?
What I mean is life at the rodeo these days, well, it doesn’t really matter whether it’s indoors or outdoors. Some hard-working fool (or two) has already paved our roads and drawn our carriages. All we have to do is stay sharp, build muscle, and watch out for bandits. Tradition is the wellspring of beauty; it’s also convenient. New idioms try forcibly to become timeless instantly. To watch them, and in particular musicians, build and rebuild upon the great gains of the past is one of the great pleasures of being alive, as a tourist or as a contestant.
