Long-time L.A. institution-of-a-producer Cole M. Greif-Neill. has announced his first solo release under his own acronymized name. Titled simply Cole M. G. N., the four-track EP will be out July 22 via Gloriette Records. Gorilla vs. Bear has already premiered one of the tracks, too: “If U Let Me,” a groovy-but-wistful slice of positively erratic, genre-defying synthesizer pop.
Over nearly a decade, M. G. N. has built a reputation for himself as a singular producer and sound engineer, only solidified by winning a Grammy award for his work on Beck’s Morning Phase last year. Consecutively, he’s remained active as a musician and songwriter, collaborating with Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, Nite Jewel, and as one-third of the experimental funk trio The Samps (among others). M. G. N.’s most recent project was a long-anticipated EP by Nite-Funk, a Nite Jewel/Dâm-Funk supergroup, which he mixed and played several instruments on.
