As we recently reported, veteran New York City trio Blonde Redhead will get their earliest material reissued by the Numero Group on September 30, as part of the label’s “200 Line” series of deluxe-edition reprints. The band has now shared a 4-track demo ahead of the compilation via BlackBook.
Numero Group is readying a 37-track, 4LP/2CD box set of long out-of-print, pure Blonde Redhead goodness. Masculin Féminin will include the band’s first two albums (Blonde Redhead and La Mia Via Violenta, released on Steve Shelley’s label Smells Like Records), as well as singles, demos, and radio performances from their formative period of the mid-1990s. The full tracklisting is available here.
Arto Lindsay, another NY experimental rock icon, praised the collection, writing that “These songs combine a raw need, a ready access to neediness, with seemingly incongruous cinematic changes reminiscent of ’60s Italian pop music and movie scores. They switch between emotional grandeur and eye scratching immediacy.”
