Chopped Herring Records, the UK-based boutique label specializing in rare and unreleased 1990s hip-hop, is gearing up to release Notorious B.I.G. demos from 1993-94 on limited vinyl. The release was supposed to be out on Monday, teased through a series of Instagram and Facebook posts, as well as an email announcement not-so-subtly announcing, “THE BIG NEW HERRING RELEASE DROPS TODAY MONDAY 1st AUGUST @ 9pm UK/10pm EURO/4pm EASTERN/1pm PACIFIC.”
But not long before 4 PM EST, the site crashed, due to a sudden influx of web traffic that could be likened to what the area around Webster Hall experienced earlier this summer after it was rumored Kanye would be doing a surprise show there. Imagine all at once, every bork in Europe breaks from their 9 PM tea — or whatever European men normally do at at this hour — because “Oi, it’s a fookin’ Biggie Smawls demo!”
Chopped Herring has since changed the release date to today at 4 PM EST, with this message:
IF THE SITE SHUTS DOWN AGAIN, WE WILL CONTINUE WITH THE FIRST COME FIRST SERVED PURCHASE SYSTEM - IF THE SITE COMES BACK UP IN 30 MINS, THEN ALL ORDERS MADE AT THAT TIME WILL COUNT…. […]
ALSO DUE TO THE DEMAND THERE WILL BE RESTRICTIONS ON COLOURED VINYL ORDERS - WILL BE FIRST COME FIRST SERVED AS USUAL - BUT PLEASE READ BEFORE COPPING
Preview the new release below and catch a herring here when it’s time.
