In case you missed it, Bon Iver announced their third studio album late last week. 22, A Million comes out September 30 on Jagjaguwar. The 10-song album was premiered live in the band’s hometown of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, at the Eaux Claires Music Festival (which Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon co-started with the National’s Aaron Dessner). So far, two fragments of the album have been shared online, both as extended versions. You can listen to them below the write-up.
Bon Iver’s last proper LP came out in 2011, but Vernon, the group’s founder and leader, hasn’t slacked off a minute since: he has recorded music with side-project Volcano Choir; guested on songs by Kanye West, James Blake, and Francis and the Lights; contributed to the soundtrack of Zach Braff’s movie Wish I Was Here; and witnessed the city of Milwaukee proclaim July 22 “Bon Iver Day,” in celebration of his indie-folk outfit.
