So, Pickathon might just be the hipsterest hipster fest ever. I know Coachella has the mainstream lockdown as the title holder for that award, but I’m pretty sure that’s just because they haven’t heard about Pickathon yet. And, honestly, it still remains a secret. Pickathon celebrated its 18th year as a festival, with an attendance of about 3,000 festival goers. Compared to more well-known festivals, this one barely registers on the Richter scale.
But I have seen the future of the Festival Experience, kids, and that is Pickathon. Imagine a hipster paradise in the woods, where food vendors and festival goers only use tin cups and reusable plates, where water is endlessly available, where the staff is both friendly and helpful. Imagine a festival where bands and festival-goers camp side by side, where the stages looks like something from Endor and small children are welcome and attend for free. That festival, my friends, is Pickathon, and it is beautiful.
